Donkeys on Top – A US Election Victory

US Election Cartoon drawn by my nephew Gaetano

Dear Blog Readers – I have been very busy doing election commentary for the Italian Television RAI News 24, and in recent weeks I have let my blog slide.  But, lucky for me, my ever-talented 13-year-old nephew, Gaetano M. has been working away.  Here is a cartoon he has drawn on the US Elections.

Translating the Italian: “Victory for the Democrats in the US Presidential Elections”

I think he appropriately drew a staid, weary Republican Elephant, and a stressed-out,  victorious Democratic Donkey.

Thank you Gaetano!

  1. I love this drawing – and your brief summary. I am going to send you a wonderful commentary that was sent to me by folks here, that is so well done. I remain amazed at the resistance to acknowledging that Obama really won, especially by the GOP, but also by some in the media, who for a day were negative about the victory but now are admitting that he won substantially, effectively, and that the public made it clear that they support him. Still the GOP insists that its message is the right one. But why should we believe that their message is more correct than their tactics, their technology, their presentation of their candidate, all of which were rejected by the voters?
Their cries, about losing traditional America, are more about race, and who gets to run things now, than about anything else. And the demographics of the vote support that thesis: GOP won white males, and people over 65. All the rest went to Obama.
This will be news for a long time.

    1. Thank you Nancy for your excellent summary. It is so fascinating how people can view the same election, the same results in so many different ways.

    1. Isn’t Gaetano great. He has an amazing talent and he will go far. It is not just his ability to draw, but his ability to interpret events. I am a very proud Aunt!
